Quiet Venetian Back Canals and Calli

February 4, 2017 No Comments

Venice gets a bad rap for being overly full of tourists.  Certainly there are times of the day where the day trippers and cruise boat guests fill up the major tourist zones, like Saint Marc’s Square and the Rialto Bridge, but you can generally avoid the crowds if you stay away those parts of town during the middle of the day.

In the early morning hours and after dusk, so much of the city of Venice can be all yours.  Especially the tight back alleys (or Calli/calle) and small canals can become quite isolated at times, making them even more magical.   We made a point to do quite a bit of wandering during these hours and I couldn’t resist trying to capture some of these quiet moments with my camera and soon in my paintings.
